“The Last Reel’’ directed by Kulikar Sotho, follows a young woman named Sophoun as she discovers an old film reel that holds the key to uncovering her mother's hidden history during the Khmer Rouge era. The film explores themes of memory, trauma, and healing, showing how the Khmer Rouge’s legacy still affects people today. It also celebrates the survival of Cambodian cinema, which nearly disappeared during that dark time.
